I have never had a shortage of ideas.
If anything, ideas are the main form of noise in my system.
They show up when I am walking. When I am reading. When I am shipping something unrelated. When I should be sleeping.
For a long time I treated that as an advantage. A founder superpower. Proof that I was “creative”.
It is also a trap.
Because when you have an abundance of ideas, you stop noticing a more important scarcity:
Confidence.
Not confidence in your ability to build. Confidence in your ability to choose.
In the last few years, the simplest recurring pain was not implementation. It was standing in front of a shelf full of possible projects and feeling slightly sick. Too many options. Too little conviction. Too much temptation to overbuild “just to explore”.
AI makes this worse.
When it becomes cheap to generate, prototype, and scaffold, you can turn indecision into motion. You can build three half-products in a weekend and call it progress.
But motion is not judgment.
The Problem
Most systems for builders optimize the wrong stage of the pipeline.
They optimize ideation.
They help you find ideas. Store ideas. Sort ideas. Score ideas. Browse ideas. Compare ideas. They give you infinite scroll, a backlog, and the comforting feeling that you are “collecting options”.
This is the same failure mode in a different outfit: avoiding a decision by creating a library.
Ask yourself a quiet question.
If someone gave you a perfect list of 10,000 high quality micro-SaaS ideas, would your life get easier?
Or would your system collapse under the weight of choice?
For experienced builders, the bottleneck is rarely “not enough ideas”.
The bottleneck is weak taste formation.
Taste is the ability to say no quickly, calmly, and consistently. It is the ability to reject without resentment, without needing to debate yourself for an hour, without needing to do “more research” that is really just procrastination with better vocabulary.

Most people think the compounding asset is a great idea.
In reality, the compounding asset is judgment.
Ideas do not compound. They multiply.
Judgment compounds because it turns into rules.
At first, you reject an idea because it feels wrong.

“I do not build products that require ongoing manual onboarding.”
“I do not build products where the distribution plan is a hope.”
“I do not build products that are really a feature request for someone else’s platform.”
This is not motivational talk. It is operational.
The rule becomes a filter.

Reduced load keeps you from thrashing.
Less thrash means more shipping.
Shipping produces real feedback.
Real feedback sharpens the rules again.
Taste becomes a flywheel.
So the correct question is not “how do I find better ideas?”

You can play FIFA for years and develop a kind of instinct for space. Passing lanes. Timing. Momentum. You stop thinking about the controller and you start seeing patterns.

Where the ideas come from
I already had an asymmetric input: a continuously growing corpus of Reddit-derived insights in two domains I actually care about.
AI development.
Music and the music business.
The temptation was to build a better search interface, a better tagging system, a better browsing experience.
But browsing is not training. Browsing is avoiding.
So the corpus is not presented as a library.
It is used as a substrate. A source of constraints and pain that can be distilled into one idea per day.
The goal is not novelty.
The goal is daily contact with real problems, turned into one decision, captured as data.
Why binary matters
A slider would feel more nuanced.
A scoring system would feel more analytical.
A multi-step rubric would feel like “doing it properly”.
And all of those would be failure modes.
Because the point is not to build a perfect evaluation framework.
The point is to build an honest loop that I will actually use daily.
Binary forces you to reveal your true stance.
It also prevents a common escape hatch: “I will decide later.”
Later is where most ideas go to die.

One-shot and immutable
I wanted the interaction to feel like signing something.
One vote.
One optional note.
No edits.

If you can rewrite the past, the past stops being a reference.
And if the past stops being a reference, you cannot learn from it.
You can only curate it.
The “no repeats” rule
Without deduplication, the tool becomes a slot machine.
You will see variations of the same idea until one lands emotionally, and then you will call it insight.
So deduplication is not a nice-to-have. It is the core safety mechanism.
It has to catch:
- exact repeats
- shallow rewrites
- semantic near-duplicates
This is also where AI is actually useful in a disciplined way: not to produce more options, but to enforce the boundary around the system.
The active-idea lock
The lock is deliberately strict: no new idea arrives until the previous one is rated.
This prevents “queueing”.
Queueing feels like productivity, but it is usually just a way to turn decisions into backlog.
And once decisions are backlog, they decay.
You forget the context.
You lose the emotional signal.
You postpone until a mythical “review day” that never feels right.
Locking the pipeline forces a clean rhythm: one prompt, one response, then move on.
It is calm. It is boring. It works.
Why this was rational to build
There is a common counterargument to internal tools like this.
There are always higher leverage opportunities.
There is always a bigger product to build.
There is always a more marketable thing to ship.
This argument sounds responsible. It often hides something else: fear of building a system that does not impress anyone.
Chief MicroSaaS Officer is not impressive.
It is intentionally small.
It does not create a public artifact.
It does not generate a portfolio.
It creates a daily loop.
And that is exactly why it is high leverage.
The build cost is low.
The learning value is guaranteed.
The output is structured decision data, which can be reused for future products, future filters, future heuristics, and future AI workflows.
Not building it would have been irrational given the goal for 2026: a year of building micro-SaaS, at least one outcome that is profitable and scalable, and a deliberate focus on agentic Operator workflows.
The shape of the system (phases, not features)
The easiest way to ruin a tool like this is to build the dashboard first.
Dashboards create the feeling of progress before behavior changes.
They also create new surfaces to polish, new metrics to chase, and new excuses to delay the part that matters: the daily decision.
So I treated the build as phases with an explicit rule: each phase must feel complete without the next one.
Phase 0: Foundation
This part is not glamorous, but it prevents thrash later.
It is where constraints get written down, the corpus is normalized, and the boundaries are locked early.
If you do not lock scope early, the agent becomes a negotiator and you become a committee of one.
Phase 1: Engine
This is the actual product:
- ingest insight substrate
- generate exactly one idea
- enforce deduplication
- deliver as a push
- capture a vote and an optional note
The engine has one job: deliver a clean decision prompt every day and record the response without drama.
It should feel complete without any analytics.
Phase 2: Dashboard (optional, delayed)
Only after the loop is stable does it make sense to visualize anything.
Even then, the dashboard should support reflection, not optimization.
The moment you start optimizing the graph, you start distorting the input.

There is a tempting next step: teach the system your preferences.
But heavy preference learning can quickly become a self-fulfilling loop. You reject something once, the model stops showing it, and you mistake absence for growth.
So the preference learning I want is lightweight:
- bias toward patterns I consistently endorse
- preserve enough novelty to keep the filter honest
- treat rejection reasons as signal, not noise
The system should not become an echo chamber of my current beliefs.
It should become a mirror of my decisions, at a distance.

I deliberately made financial outcomes a lagging metric.
Not because money does not matter, but because money is not the first thing this system is trying to produce.
First, it produces behavior.
Then it produces cognition.
Then it produces strategy.
Then, if you execute well, it produces economics.
Behavioral metrics

If I cannot respond daily, the loop is too heavy.
If I keep delaying votes, the system is failing at its main job.
Cognitive metrics
- stable rejection ratio
- shorter, clearer rejection explanations
- emergence of explicit “I don’t build X” rules
This is the real output: a sharpened filter.
Strategic metrics
- reduced time from idea to action
- fewer abandoned experiments
- a small number of high-conviction builds
The goal is not to ship everything.
The goal is to ship a few things with clean conviction.
Anti-metrics (failure signals)
I also wanted explicit signals that the system is drifting:
- wanting more than one idea per day
- treating ideas as entertainment
- asking for more context instead of deciding
- saving decisions for later
- the system becoming “easy to like”
When a tool becomes easy to like, it often means it has started serving comfort instead of truth.
What actually happened
The system shipped.
It runs.
It gets used daily.
And the early confirmation was not excitement. It was stability.
The constraints survived contact with reality.
The loop did not grow into a dashboard.
The decision muscle got trained.
Most days the vote is no. That is correct. The point is not to find one good idea out of ten. The point is to become the kind of person who can reject nine without drama.
